The Melanesia Cup is a football (soccer)
championship played between the Melanesian countries, it was used (along with the Polynesia Cup
) for qualification to the Oceania Nations Cup. The last edition of the cup was in 2001. The tournament used a round-robin format involving every team playing each other once at the tournaments location.In 1994 Solomon Islands won the championship for the first and only time despite being stunned by Nauru 2-1 earlier in the year this was also the only international game Nauru have competed in.
In 2008, the Wantok Cup
was established as a competition between Papua New Guinea
