. It was established in August 2002 after a merger of Thomas Jefferson High (4A), Abraham Lincoln High (4A) and Stephen F. Austin High (2A). Since then, Memorial High (5A) has been the only high school in the Port Arthur Independent School District
. It serves most of Port Arthur and a portion of Groves
.It also has a 9th Grade Center which is located in El Vista.
When Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Stephen F. Austin high schools were consolidated, students voted on the new name for the district and the top two vote-getters were "Memorial High School" and "Thurgood Marshall
High School." In September of 2007, school board member Terry Doyle suggested renaming Memorial High School after the late Staff Sgt. Lucian Adams

. Karla Obregon will be principal at Port Arthur Independent School District’s new Staff Sergeant Lucian Adams campus for the 2011-2012 school year. The Lucian Adams campus is expected to open this summer in time for the 2011-2012 school year.
