Merry-Joseph Blondel

Merry-Joseph Blondel was a French neo-classic painter.
After a first training in the Dilh et Guerhard porcelain factory, he became a student of Jean-Baptiste Regnault
. He won the prestigious 1803 Prix de Rome
for his painting Enée portant son père Anchise. He lived in Villa Médicis in Rome
from 1809 to 1812, and won a gold award for his painting Mort de Louis XII. He then began a career as an interior decorator, completing works at Fontainebleau Castle, Brongniart Palace, the Louvre Museum, and the Sénat.
He was elected member of Beaux-Arts Academy in 1832, after which he was nominated professor at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts
