Michael Payne is an English marketing executive and author, former head of the marketing division of the International Olympic Committee
(IOC). He is the author of the 2005 book Olympic Turnaround.
in the 1970s, Michael Payne began marketing his fellow athletes, helping them find sponsors to permit them to compete. Payne was drafted into the IOC in the early 1980s, at which point the Olympics were on the verge of bankruptcy. At first part of a team, he became the first marketing director for the organization in 1998. During his 20 years with the IOC, he created a multi-billion dollar marketing program for the organization, worldwide. According to media outlets, Payne is "credited with turning the Games into a financial success" through the television and marketing deals he negotiated for the Olympics during his tenure.
