Mike Groff is a former race car driver in CART
and the Indy Racing League and the 1989 Indy Lights champion. He made 54 starts in CART beginning in 1990 with a best finish of 6th, occurring at Phoenix International Raceway
in 1994. After a difficult season of Honda V-8 engine development during 1994, Groff competed in all 3 races of the first IRL season in 1996 finishing 6th in the championship after posting a pair of 3rd place finishes at both Phoenix and Las Vegas Motor Speedways. In 1997 Groff went on to post a season best 2nd place finish at Walt Disney World Speedway, Orlando, FL. His last open wheel race Indy Car race was the 1998 Indianapolis 500
. He attempted to qualify for the 1999 "500" but failed to do so. His best finish in his 5 Indy 500 starts is a 12th in 1997. His younger brother Robbie
was also a CART and IRL driver from 1994 to 1998.
