. After redshirting his freshman season in 2002, Richardson played in all 13 games in 2003, mainly on special teams, seeing time at cornerback in three games. He started five games in 2004 at cornerback, recording one interception and forcing three fumbles. In 2005, Richardson would start all 12 games at cornerback and finished fifth on the team with 66 tackles while also picking up three interceptions. As a fifth-year senior in 2006, Richardson would lead all Division 1-A independent schools with four interceptions. Ricahrdson would play his final two seasons at Notre Dame under former Patriots offensive coordinator

Richardson was waived by the Patriots on August 30, 2008 during final cuts. He was re-signed to the team's practice squad on September 1, where he remained until he was then promoted to the Patriots' active roster on October 20. That day, Richardson made his regular season debut on Monday Night Football
against the Denver Broncos
and picked up a season-high six tackles. Richardson would go on to play 10 games as a reserve cornerback for the Patriots in 2008, recording 17 total tackles.
He was released by the Patriots on August 17, 2009.
The Chiefs released Richardson on September 3, 2010 after training camp but was resigned on December 1, 2010. After playing in zero games, he was again released on December 26, 2010.
