Encyclopedia
Mike Vreeswyk is a former American basketball player.
High School (PA) from 1981-1985 where he set every season and career basketball record. He finished his career with 2019 points (which was 2nd all-time in Lower Bucks County and 31st in PA history at the time). As a Junior he averaged 23ppg and was named 3rd team all-state. As a Senior he led the state of PA in scoring with an average of 33.5ppg and was named 1st team all-state. He had over 100 basketball scholarship offers and he decided to play for Hall of Fame basketball coach John Chaney at Temple University
in Philadelphia, PA.
Vreeswyk attended Temple University from 1985-1989. He was a three year starter and finished his Temple career as the 5th leading scorer of all time (still currently in the top 10) with 1650 points. He also left school as the holder of every 3-point record that lasted for 15 years until Lynn Greer surpassed them. (One interesting note is that the 3-point line was instituted in Mike's Soph. year meaning he only played with it for 3 years instead of 4). He was a member and second leading scorer on the 1987-88 team that was ranked #1 in the country for 9 weeks and went into the NCAA tournament as the overall #1 seed before losing to Duke in the East Regional Finals.
After college Vreeswyk had tryouts with the Seattle Supersonics, Washington Bullets, and Philadelphia 76ers before embarking on a successful 9 year professional career overseas. He played in Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, The Netherlands, Portugal and Japan.
Vreeswyk was inducted into the Philadelphia Big 5
