All of Milpitas' elementary schools are named after the early settlers who cultivated the land in what is now Milpitas.

Because the school is lacking funds, Measure A had been proposed in March 2005 to raise taxes by a few hundred dollars for five years. It failed to pass because it required a two-thirds approval by voters. Only 59% of the voters approved the measure.
