The name "Miradero" means vantage point, lookout in Spanish. The rural barrio of Miradero, today sub-urban, next to the city suggests y describes a place appropriate to look and admire something or some landscape and it is usually used for that purpose, the name makes reference to the panoramic vistas of the city of Mayagüez and its bay and the Mona passage
