Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology

The Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT) is a public institution of tertiary education that offers courses in education opportunities at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including short-term courses and high school.

Profile

The institution conducts research in which it continually generates new technologies packaged or demonstrated designed to help farmers improve farming techniques. Well-coordinated extension programs are conducted through local and external linkages. Its MOSCAT-Farmers’ Information and Technology Services Center in collaboration with PCARRD and NOMCARRD has been open to serve clients needing information and technology services.

With education as the front core of the college, faculty and staff continues to enhance their professional capabilities through trainings locally and abroad. It is also the function of the school to acquire more instructional facilities and equipment to serve the need for its academic programs. The college provides scholarships to poor but deserving students through funding institutions and agencies.

History

MOSCAT started as Claveria Municipal High School in 1963 with 165 students and five teachers under the leadership of its first administrator, the late Romeo Abilo. In 1967, it was converted to Claveria National Rural High School (CNRHS) by virtue of RA 3781 under the staunch leadership of the late Marcos Edrolin. On June 10, 1983, Batas Pambansa 402 was approved and converted the CNRHS to Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology or MOSCAT with Arsenio B. Gonzales as its first president. Gonzales’ term was highlighted by the Republic of The Philippines-European Union Agricultural Education Grant providing more facilities and machinery, vehicles, buildings and faculty training locally and abroad. was established showcasing sustainable upland farming technologies.

In 1996, Dr. Teresita T. Tumapon was appointed as officer-in-charge. She strengthened local and international linkages such as Barangay Integrated Approached for Nutrition Improvement (BIDANI), the Agroforestry Support Program for Empowering Communities Towards Self-reliance in Sustainable Development of the Uplands and the International Center for Research in Agroforestry.

Dr. Juan A. Nagtalon became its second president from 1998 until 2006. He spearheaded the accreditation of the existing academic programs, planted strong foundations in his administration and espoused the philosophy of MOSCAT HEIRS (Harmony, Excellence, Integrity, Responsibility and Service to God, country and mankind). These past administrators left indelible marks of unprecedented improvements that resulted its present stature of today.

and can be reached in an hour ride 42 km north-east from the province’s capital city, Cagayan de Oro. MOSCAT prides itself with its God-given gifts of invigorating natural fresh air, green, tranquil scenes and peaceful environment, far from the hullabaloo of the city. The college has 65 ha for its main campus and 32 ha for its field laboratories and production enterprises. Its mandate is to continue serving its clienteles through research, extension, instruction and production with the end of attaining the national development goals.
