Mish Mash!
Encyclopedia
Mish Mash! is the fifth full-length release from Regurgitator
and was released on November 15, 2004.
The album was the result of the "Band in a Bubble
" project, a new reality TV-inspired media stunt sponsored and broadcast by Australian music channel, Channel V
. The band entered a small glass recording studio, built in Federation Square
in the centre of Melbourne
, to record the album. Pedestrians could look into most rooms of the "bubble" and could watch the band work, or tune in to a 24 hour digital cable television channel and watch their work on that. Nobody could enter or leave the bubble. In addition to the three band members, Australian producer Magoo, engineer Hugh and Channel V host Jabba
were all also locked into the bubble with the band.
A 'secret' part of the album features the blowing of a shofar
(a ram's horn blown on the Jewish New Year). The shofar stunt took place with the aid of two religious Jews who worked for Mount Scopus Memorial College
, a Melbourne
Jewish school. The two are known as "Mr Mitz and Mrs Vah" (a play on the Hebrew word Mitzvah
, meaning good deed) and filmed comic skits about various Jewish holidays for the school. Because of their outlandish garb--one of them was wearing a kilt
--they were mistaken for Scotsmen by the band.
