Maheshpur Upazila is a part of the Khulna Division. It is one of the Upazila in Jhenaidah District of Khulna divisions. Maheshpur Upazila with an area of 419.53 sq km, is bounded by jibannagar and kotchandpur upazilas on the north, chaugachha upazila and West Bengal (India) on the south, Chaugachha upazila on the east, West Bengal of India on the west.

Maheshpur Upazila has 12 unions, Namely- SBK, Fotepur, Pantapara, Shoruppur, Shamkur, Nepa, Kajirber, Bashbaria, Jadoppur, Natima, Mandarbaria and Ajompur. Maheshpur (Town) consists of 9 wards and 14 mahallas. Maheshpur thana was turned into an upazila in 1983.

Geography

Maheshpur Upazila shares borders with India to the West, Cotchandpur Upazila and Chowgasa Upazilla of jessor to the East, Chowgasa Upazilla of jessor to the South and Jibon nagar upazilla of Dorshona district to the North side. Main rivers flowing through this Upazila are Kapotakkho Nod, Maheshpur is located at 23.3500°N 88.9125°E . It has 41995 units of household and total area 419.53 km².

Population

Maheshpur Upazila has a population of almost 2,96,248; male 51.22%, female 48.78%; Muslim 95.59%, Hindu 4.31% and others 0.10%, and area of about 591 km² (1,530.7 sq mi).

The area of the town is 11.47 sq km. The town has a population of 26473; male 51.26% and female 48.74%;

Famous Person

Bir-Sreshtho Hamidur Rahman(??????? ?????) (2 February 1953 - 28 October 1971): Bir-Sreshtho Hamidur Rahman better known as Shaheed Sepoy Hamidur Rahman, was a Sepoy in Bangladesh Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Hamidur Rahman was killed on October 28, 1971 at Dhalai, Sylhet during an attempt to capture the Pakistani Army's position. The advancing Mukti Bahini column finally captured the Dhalai Border Outpost due in large part to his efforts. He was posthumously awarded the Bir Sreshtho, the highest recognition of bravery of Bangladesh.

Hamidur Rahman was born on 2 February 1953 in Khardo Khalishpur village under Moheshpur police station of the Jhenaidah district, and was the eldest son of his family. During the Partition of India in 1947, his paternal properties fell in India. They crossed over the border and settled in the bordering area of Khorda Khalishpur of Jhenaidah district.
