History

The hotel first opened as the Park Tahoe, built by Park Cattle Co. in 1978, then ground leased to Caesars by 1980. In line with the Caesars name, the property was remodeled with a Roman

theme. Caesars World added Tahoe because of its prestigious location and gaming nature. Caesars Tahoe's ownership changed hands many times, the brand being owned by a series of companies. Most notably, Park Place and Caesars Entertainment, which were the same company following a name change.

The hotel was known for its entertainment offerings, over the years playing host to Dean Martin, Cher, Mac Davis and Tony Bennett. In its later years, its showroom was graced by Rosie O'Donnell and many other headlining comics and big names. It was also the host hotel and title sponsor of the "American Century Championship" golf games at nearby Edgewood Golf course in July, that sponsorship ended in 2004. When Caesars was host, celebrities like Michael Jordan, Randy Quaid, Kenny Rogers and others would play in the casino. After Caesars Entertainment Corp (Harrah's) sold the Caesars Tahoe hotel in 2005, the title sponsorship and host switched to Harrah's/Harveys Casinos. Of which they remain host to this day. Also, in its earlier years, Caesars Tahoe was home to title fights from championship names.

Caesars Tahoe was sold by Caesars Entertainment, Inc. in June 2005 to Columbia Sussex for $45 million. The sale was part of a series of sales made by Caesars Entertainment Corporation and Caesars to avoid anti-trust issues with their proposed merger.
Columbia Sussex announced plans on October 11, 2005 to rename Caesars Tahoe to the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa which happened on May 24, 2006. The resort is now under the ownership of Tropicana Entertainment, a series of resorts under the Columbia Sussex flag.
