Significance

The village Moothakunnam is well known for Shankara Narayana Murthi[Moothakunathappan] temple, which was blessed by Sree Narayana Guru in the early part of the twentieth century. The temple is located near [Periyar] river. Speciality about the temple is, whatever trees are considered to be sacred according to hindutva has sprout out naturally which shows the sacredness of the temple. The temple's governing authority runs many educational institutions.
