History
Moyhu was founded between 1856 and 1875 and became the home of several successful farms, timber mills and a large butter factory. It is believed the name of the town came from the corruption of the names of two Chinese farmers, Ah Moy and Ah Yu. The Post Office opened on 1 January 1868. During the late 1800s Moyhu was a lively centre, and the home of many race meetings, dances and other social events. The town did not live up to its potential - in fact, the size of the town has remained relatively constant over the past 75 years.The town today
