Mozy is an online backup
service for both Windows

users. The cloud service allows users to back up data continuously, manually or schedule updates. Mozy is known for offering backup storage space for home and business users. In 2011, they changed to their current tiered pricing model. Originally released as a consumer product for end-user

In October 2007, EMC
acquired Berkeley Data Systems, along with the Mozy product line for $76 million. In November 2008, EMC Corporation created Decho Corporation, formed from the assets of Berkeley Data Systems and PI corporation. Now headquartered in Seattle, Washington
, Mozy is Decho’s flagship product.
In April 2011, EMC transferred control of Mozy to its VMware
division, a move which will assist VMware in targeting its increasing number of cloud-based offerings towards small and medium-sized business. Mozy's staff will also be integrated into VMware.
MozyHome is the consumer version of the Mozy backup service. It is available to buy on a monthly subscription, or on various other plans. MozyHome previously offered users an unlimited amount of storage space. In February 2011 they closed the unlimited service and are charging according to how much space is used.
MozyPro is the business class version of the Mozy backup service. MozyPro requires a separate license for each computer that is being backed up, as well as a server license for any server that is being backed up. Customers then pay per gigabyte of data they have in the data center.
With all Mozy products, after the initial backup, Mozy only backs up new or changed portions of files
. Backups can take place when the computer is not in use, either automatically, and at scheduled times. All user data is encrypted locally with strong encryption prior to transfer via a 128-bit SSL connection. Users can choose a managed encryption key or choose a personal key for added security. Data is stored in SAS70 type II and ISO 27001 certified data centers.
In May 2010, Mozy launched MozyHome 2.0 and MozyPro 2.0, adding support for local backup, increased performance and a new user interface for consumers and small businesses.
