The Armenian side returned fire, resulting in the death of Ibrahimov and causing the unit to retreat. His body was left on the Armenian side of the defense line.
According to Azerbaijani sources Ibrahimov personally killed at least four and wounded five Armenian soldiers before falling in the battle, although this has neither been confirmed by Armenian nor independent sources.

The body of Mubariz Ibrahimov remained under Armenian control for a few months.
