Due to spending a lot of money on the bar, Murray and Wendy are unable to take daughter Jasmine and troublesome son Evan on holiday, Evan responds by running away. Murray locates Evan after a week only to discover the building he is in is on fire.
In 2011 Murray becomes positive Evan set alight to the building and pressures him to plead guilty to arson. When Murray learns the truth he apologizes to his son. Upon learning Brodie took out a finance deal to pay for the bar, Murray forces him to sell his shares in the business. Murray later starts to spend time with Vasa and the two share a kiss. Murray comes clean to Wendy and she becomes devastated, nearly kicking Murray out. The two make up however Murray and Vasa share a private kiss before she leaves. In Late September, Murray is given pause when a guest complains about insect bites, and Winston Youn confirms he's had problems too. Murray calls in an investigator, and is alarmed to discover bedbugs Murray enlists Bella Cooper
to get rid of the last of the diners before the pest control servicemen arrive. However Rachel Mckenna
and Chris Warner
and some important guests remain in the restaurant. Bella is forced to distract their attention and makes a complete idiot of herself in the process. The men eradicate the bed bugs, but unbeknown to anyone, Phoenix transfers a picture frame, and with it the infestation, to the Warner house when Phoenix Raynor arrives at Jasmines with a present hes made for her - a sketch in the picture frame he obtained from the I.V. Murray recognises the frame and, noting Phoenixs itchiness, realises the bedbugs are back. Phoenix and Murray rush to the hospital, interrupting Rachel where she is watching Chriss remote surgery. Itchy herself, Rachel is horrified to learn about the bedbugs.

Creation and Introduction
The character of Murray was named after part time Shortland Street director, Murray Keane who had previously played Earl Crombie, the patriarch of the Crombie family. It was announced in August 2010 that new character Wendy's family would be introduced throughout the remainder of the year.
