Since 2000 the museum is part of the Zoologische Staatssammlung München

The Museum Witt has a collection of 2.5 to 3 million butterflies, and The Bavarian State Collection of Zoology additional 7 million butterflies. A crew of permanent scientists work at the museum and it has an impressing library.
