Plot overview

The series of books takes place in Ella Mentary Elementary School, where A.J. (a boy who hates school) and his arch-enemy (also secret love) Andrea Young go to school. In these series, each book explains how the teachers are weird, each in his or her own way. In a lot of the books, the kids think that a teacher is not a real teacher at all. The last sentence in each book is: But it won't be easy.

A new series was published in 2008, where A.J., Andrea, and the gang were graduating from second grade and going to third grade, where they will have a new teacher and new adventures at Ella Mentry School. The books are:

My Weirder School

My Weirder School is a series which stars A.J and the gang, who are still in third grade. The upcoming titles are as follows, the first two of which were released on June 21, 2011. The third one, Mrs. Lilly Is Silly!, is set to be released on October 11, 2011. The fourth one, Mr. Burke is Berserk!, is set to be released on February 7, 2012. The fifth one, Ms. Beard is Weird! is set to be released on June 26, 2012.

A.J. (Arlo Jervis)

A.J. (Arlo Jervis) is the main character in the books and the narrator. In the beginning of the books, A.J. introduces himself and say "I hate school." He usually says that he hates Andrea but he secretly loves her. He does not likes what goes on in school except Phys Ed ("Fizz Ed" he spells it) and recess. In Mr. Docker Is Off His Rocker, Andrea tells everyone that A.J. stands for Arlo Jervis. He ends every book by saying "But it won't be easy!". He says "the first rule of being a kid," when he does a thing that kids usually do.

Andrea Young

Andrea Young is the smartest person in A.J.'s class, one of two primary antagonists, and usually corrects A.J. and the boys from mistakes they make while talking, and occasionally says "Boys are dumbheads." She always raises her hand after any questions are asked and moans "Ooh, ooh, ooh" which makes her look like she needs to go to the bathroom, according to A.J. Her mother is the PTA vice president of Ella Mentry School. She is also said to be a psychiatrist according to Andrea. A.J. says Andrea is the most annoying kid in school.

Michael Robinson

Michael Robinson is one of A.J.'s best friends. He is notorious for never tying his shoes. He is the 2nd smallest person in the class and wears glasses.

Ryan Dole

Ryan Dole is an African American boy who will eat just about anything, even a seat cushion. That happens in Mrs. Kormel Is Not Normal! Ryan just knows he would starve and die if he does not eat lunch. He buys the school lunch. When Mrs. Kormel gets lost on the way to school, Ryan talked about a guy who was stranded on an airplane and ate a seat cushion to survive. When he first tasted the seat cushion, Ryan says it tasted horrible. Michael offers Ryan some ketchup, Ryan squirts it on the seat cushion and eats it. Ryan says, "It's not bad actually." A.J. said Ryan was weird.

Emily Pucket

Emily Pucket is Andrea's accomplice. She is also the other of the two antagonists. Emily agrees with everything that Andrea says, making A.J. think that Andrea and Emily are the most annoying students he has ever met. Emily is sometimes called a crybaby, because she always cries and "runs out of the room" when A.J. says something mean to her, for example when he said '"I see London, I see France, I see Emily's underpants". She appeared in every book except Mr. Sunny Is Funny!

Neil Crouch

Neil Crouch is a character mistaken to be a "nude kid". He made his first appearance in Mrs. Kormel Is Not Normal!, when the school bus

to pick up the "nude kid" which turned out to be the new kid. They finally met Neil after approaching in school. The boys agreed to call Neil "the nude kid" although he wears clothes. Neil doesn't speak too much. Neil's appearance is similar to Michael because they both have glasses and the same hair.

Alexia Juarez

Alexia Juarez (or A.J) is a tomboy introduced in Miss Child Has Gone Wild! She first appears riding a skateboard into Mr. Granite's class. She always wearing a cap also. According to A.J., she is "pretty cool", even though she is a girl. She also likes and dislikes what A.J. likes and dislikes. For example, she hates school, and she likes eating pizza and skateboarding. And she wears a shirt that says LED ZEPPELIN.

Mrs. Daisy

First called Miss Daisy, she was A.J.'s 2nd grade teacher. She first appeared in and was the star of Miss Daisy is Crazy. She ironically hates school and barely knows anything, although she knows when an answer is wrong, and she also loves bonbons. She got married to Mr. Macky in Mr Louie is Screwy and had a child, named Jackie Macky, during the summer.

Mr. Klutz

Mr. Klutz is the principal of Ella Mentry School. He is constantly doing weird things, like kissing a pig, if the kids do some special school activity like reading a million pages. He was once fired during Dr. Carbles is Losing His Marbles but came back later. He has a wife named Mrs. Klutz, a daughter named Mary and a son-in-law named Zack, who is Mary's husband.

Ella Mentry (Mrs. Mentry)

Mrs. Ella Mentry is the women who Ella Mentry School was named after. She occasionally visits and when she does something always goes wrong.

Dr. Carbles

Dr. Carbles was the principal of the board of education who sometimes came to visit Ella Mentry School, with something going wrong every time. He eventually got tired of it and fired Mr. Klutz, but he came back later and Carbles was fired by the superintendent.

Mr. Granite

A.J.'s 3rd grade teacher. He's supposedly from another planet, and tried to return, but his spaceship crashed. Also a long-distance swimmer.

Mrs. Cooney

This school nurse A.J.'s public love interest, although she is already married. Was once believed to be a spy.
