Encyclopedia
NAM is a commercial Build engine
game designed by the TNT Team (Reactor4), the makers of the Platoon TC for Duke Nukem 3D
. Infogrames picked them up and put them to work remaking Platoon with more professional art and some custom source code modifications by Matt Saettler, who is the progenitor of the EDuke project. U.S. Marine Sergeant Dan Snyder, who helped pioneer computer simulation training for American troops with a Doom army mod, was a consultant on the project.
. Very little was changed in regards to controls, movement rate, physics, and con language. The only immediately noticeable change in the game code was the removal of the remote detonator for weapon 6, the grenade, which was a pipebomb in Duke Nukem 3D. In the game, there are AI marines which will help the player in some levels, each with different classes and specialties. Mines are present in most levels, requiring players to activate his mine detector.
NAM places you in the center of the Vietnam war in 1966. Sgt. Alan "The Bear" Westmoreland, is the most deadly weapon in the US arsenal. He IS a Marine sergeant that the CIA has "taken under its wing". The Bear is the toughest, most deadly one-man wrecking crew in Nam. His secret lies in an experimental serum that is a healing agent, pain killer, and stimulant all rolled into one bad-ass cocktail. His mission is to perform standard military operations, acting alone or with small teams, but always against overwhelming odds. He is the test case for a new type of stealth infantryman. His mission is to survive couple tours of duty... just to see if he can live through the side effects of the drug... War is hell...."
