NAS Wexford, a US naval air station
, was built during World War I
at a site formerly used by the Royal Naval Air Service
to protect the southern entrance to the Irish Sea
. A seaplane station, it was located at Ferrybank
. All construction was done by American labour and was finished on 18 September 1918. Operations began that month and the station was closed on 15 February 1919. (Note: another source says that the station was put in commission on 2 May 1918. However, it is possible that this is the date on which construction started.)
A concrete slipway is all that remains.
