Nagbhir-Is situated in the north-west of the Bramhapuri tahsil and is the first considerable village which the traveller from Umrer to Chanda arrives at after entering the confines of this District. It is 65 miles to the north-east of Chanda. It is as usual a straggling village which has grown up without any conscious plan, and the confusion of its houses and the tortuousness of its lanes are brought into strong contrast by the Government high road, which cuts a ruthlessly straight line undeviatingly through the abadi. Two roads meet here, the high road from Chanda to Umrer and so ultimately to Nagpur, and the branch road to the tahsil headquarters at Bramhapuri 14 miles distant. To these important routes of traffic will shortly be added a rail-road. The Gondia-Chanda Railway is to pass through Nagbhir, throwing out at this point a branch line to Nagpur, and Nagbhir junction should, in the near future, be a busy and important station. The population in 1901 was 2940, against 3896 in 1891. At present the village is chiefly celebrated for its tasar spinning industry, the yarn produced here being of a particularly the quality. When plague raged at Umrer a few years ago, the well-known spinners of that place emigrated to Nagbhir, and there tided over the time of trouble. A weekly bazar is held here on Thursdays and an annual fair takes place at Mahashivartra about a mile from the village, and conspicuous for miles as a white spot against a dark background of hill is a temple, by which abides a fakir who obtains his living from the offerings of the pious. Behind the temple is a small natural cave. An inspection bungalow has recently been built on the camping ground-a somewhat eerie spot tenanted by the tombs of dead and gone Musalmans. There is as usual a school, into which the fairly large Muhammadan community of the place are ever wishful to introduce the study of Urdu, and at last their efforts have been crowned with success-an Urdu teacher was, in 1908, appointed to the school as assistant master. There is also a branch post office The malguzar of the village is a Muhammadan.

History
Not much of the research has been done on the history of the town, but oldest documented reference can be seen for the nearby village called as 'chikumbara' in the stone script which was found in nearby village devtak, 4 km from the nagbhir towards east. The stone script, written in prakrit language, tells that the village chikumbara was donated to some bramhin by order of some minister of Samrat Ashok, in 1st century B.C. Still there is village called as chikmara near nagbhir which proves the link with history. The stone is kept in central museum Nagpur. There are multiple stone pilers, half buried, in rows, near the hill in the town. Some researchers have related them to 3000 year old tribal custom of erecting a stone piller at the burial place. But these stones need more research.
