In 2008, Nami released her 4th Studio Album entitled "Don't Stay". The album contained songs from her singles Brightdown, Cross Season and Winter Ballades as well as some new tracks. The album did not chart or sell as well as her previous albums. Nami held a special live tour "Anniversary Live 5", which took place in Tokyo and Osaka. In the latter part of 2008, she conducted concert tours for her 6th album Don't Stay~GO!!~
launched on April 23, 2008, fans experienced a long gap of nothing new from Nami besides live performances. Speculation and rumors surfaced about Nami leaving Sony Music Japan to another record label however the transfer was finally confirmed by Nami Tamaki herself in a recent live performance on September 22, 2008 at the GIRLS ENTERTAINMENT vol.1 stating that she is indeed transferring but everything now is still secret.
Towards the end of September 2008, her monthly issue of her Amour Fan Club volumes released an official confirmation about the transfer, and that Nami would be transferring to Universal Music Japan

On January 15, 2009, Nami's official website, tamaki-nami.net, announced the release of a new single expected to be due out March 25 called "Give Me Up
". This single is her first under the Universal-J label and her 16th career single. The single features a more positive upbeat sound compared to her previous singles.
After the somewhat successful release of Give Me Up
in January 2009, Nami continued to release new music with new singles: "Friends!" (Single #17) and "Moshimo Negai ga..." (Single #18). A new single, her 19th career single and her 4th under the UNIVERSAL-J label, "Omoide ni Naru no?" was released on February 10, 2010. Universal-J has also given Nami Tamaki a stage name as "nami" as opposed to her full name in kanji. Her first album under Universal-J was released on the 24th of February, and is titled Step.
