Naples Afragola is a proposed railway station that is expected to become one of the main railway stations of Naples
and southern Italy. Construction has been delayed and will not be finished before 2012.

(FS, Italian state railways) expects that 84 of its high-speed trains will use the station each day, including one every thirty minutes in each direction during peak periods. The four platforms of the high-speed station will be connected to platforms built for FS regional services between Naples and Cancello diverted from the Rome–Cassino–Naples line
through the station and to terminal platforms on a new branch of the Circumvesuviana
narrow-gauge network built to connect to the new station. The station is expected to be used by about 200 regional trains per day.
The architect Zaha Hadid
formally presented the station's design on 4 November 2003. The station building will be built on a bridge above the tracks and will have four levels with a maximum height of 25 meters. It will have an area of 20,000 metres2, with provision for an additional 10,000 m2. The station will be 350 metres long and will have a 1,400 space parking area and a bus station. It is expected that about 33,000 people will use the station daily, not all rail passengers.
The station was due to be open in 2009 when the rail network operator, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana
(RFI) first awarded the €59.5 million construction contract to a consortium, but subsequent disputes over the price caused RFI to call tenders again and it cannot now be finished before 2011.
