Nattika is a small village in Thrissur district
of Kerala
state, south India
. It is centrally located about 25 km from Thrissur, Kodungallur and Guruvayur. There is a beautiful beach
in this village called Nattika Beach. Nattika is on the west coast of Thrissur
. This is an assembly constituency.
The Shree Rama temple of Triprayar is in Nattika Panchayat. This temple has got the biggest Shree Rama shrine in South India. This is considered to be a very holy place for Hindus. There is a famous Mosque also at Nattika Beach. This was built at least three hundred years ago and was renovated around 1985. There are lot of temples in Nattika Like Eyyani temple, Netrakovil temple, Vazhakulam temple,Arikiri temple, Arayam parambil temple, Panakkal Pandikasalakkal Durga Bhagavati temple, Nagadevata temple, Eran Samajam Temple, Thottupura Temple etc.
Educational Institutions
There is a college named Shree Narayana College (S.N. College)in Nattika and a Poly Technic at Triprayar named Shree Rama Poly Technic.
There is a very old school at Nattika Beach (Triprayar Beach) called Govt. Fisheries School. This school is attached with a Teachers Training centre & B.Ed centre affiliated to the Calicut University. This school was founded almost a hundred years ago by prominent people in the village. Some of among them were Mr.Panakkal Velandi,Kohinoor Abdul Kader,K.P Saidu and Kanchira Parambhil Theyyan. Later on, the Govt took over the school somewhere in the 1990s. Another private school which has come up is Le Mer.
Social Milieu
You can see people from all religions & castes in Nattika like Hindus, Muslims and Christians. There are a lot of people belonging to the Araya Community as fishing is a major activity here.
At Nattika Beach every year a big celebration, Oruma, is held by the Kerala Govt. for promoting tourism. This programme runs for a week and thousands of people come to see and participate in this festival. Many elephants are decorated and brought for this festival and there are different types of cultural programmes performed by famous artistes in many fields. At least 50 lakh Rupees is spent by Kerala Govt for this.
Nattika beach is a 3 km long White sandy beautiful beach and fishing is carried on here and now, there are two resorts and lot tourists come for sight seeing & recreation. Most number of people from here work in the Gulf Countries and the remittances from abroad is very high in this area. Most people in this village are educated and well wishers. You can see beautiful Individual Villas and Bungalows are used by the village people for living. Another claim to fame is that the evergreen classic Malayalam Movie "Chemmeen" was shot here.
