Ned attended and played lacrosse at the Delbarton School in New Jersey. Crotty plays attack at 6'2 and 190 pounds. Crotty entered the 2010 season ranked seventh in career assists (84) and 17th in career points (153) at Duke. Crotty was an All American and won the Tewaaraton Trophy
for most outstanding college lacrosse player in 2010. On May 31, 2010, Ned and the Duke Lacrosse team won their first ever Division I NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship

On July 6, 2010, Ned signed a multi year endorsement deal with Brine
lacrosse. He will begin to help sell and advertise lacrosse products with the Brine lacrosse team. On July 8, 2010, Ned won the MLL 2pt shot competition held at half time at the 2010 Major League Lacrosse All-Star game.
Crotty was drafed by the Colorado Mammoth
of the National Lacrosse League
in the second round of the 2010 entry draft, and played in eight games with the Mammoth during the 2010 season
. He was traded to the Philadelphia Wings
for John Orsen during the Boston Blazers
dispersal draft.
He currently works for Trilogy Lacrosse as a Sales and Marketing Director.
On November 23, it was announced that the Chicago Machine, who had been playing a road/travel schedule, would be transferred to Rochester and become the reborn Rochester Rattlers. Crotty will lead the attack with wingers Mike Leveille
