Nedstrand is a village and a former municipality in Rogaland
county, Norway
.
The village is located on the south-eastern coast of Nedstrandhalvøya, and its population is 241 (2008).
Nærstrand was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt
), which encompassed the parishes Hinderaa (Hinderå) and Sjærnerø
, located on the northern (mainland) and southern (islands) bank of Nedstrandfjorden, respectively. The districts split in 1868 to create two separate municipalities, with a population of 1,680 in Hinderaa and 922 in Sjærnerø. In 1881 the name of Hinderaa was changed to Nerstrand, and between 1910 and 1920 it was changed to Nedstrand.
