Nettlefold Studios were located in what is now Hepworth Way, Walton-on-Thames
. Cecil Hepworth
began film making there in 1899, but the name derives from the subsequent owner, Archibald Nettlefold, who rebuilt the studios on the original site. During the late fifties the studio changed its name to Walton Studios. The decline of the British film industry brought about their closure in 1961.
Early Michael Powell

, were produced at the studios as were 143 episodes of the ITV television series The Adventures of Robin Hood
(1955 - 59). Three other popular adventure series, The Adventures of Sir Lancelot
(1956 - 57) (30 episodes), The Buccaneers
(1956 - 57) (39 episodes), and The Four Just Men (1959 - 60) (39 episodes) were also filmed there. The studio's most famous film, however, may be 1951's Scrooge
, with Alistair Sim, released as A Christmas Carol in the U.S.
Other films produced included The Pickwick Papers(1952) and the popular Arthur Lucan series of 'Old Mother Riley.'
