Notable residents
One of Newbern's oldest residents was Charles Adams, a black man born in 1903. He and his wife joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He later served in the branch presidency and as elders quorum president. He was serving in the later capacity in 2006 when 102.
