Nick Winter

Anthony William Winter (25 August 1894 – 6 May or 7 May 1955) was an Australian athlete, who was born in Brocklesby, New South Wales
. He competed for Australia in the 1924 Summer Olympics
held in Paris, France, where he won the gold medal in the men's triple jump.
After a special trial, in 1928 Winter was included in the team for the 1928 Summer Olympics
in Amsterdam
, but did not qualify for the final of the triple jump. In January 1930 he won the event at the national championships in Sydney, clearing only 47 ft. 3 ins. (14.4 m); he took second place in 1932, shortly before retiring from competition. A heavy drinker for several years, he died from carbon monoxide poisoning
at his Pagewood home on or about 6 May 1955; the coroner returned an open finding.
