Night of the Werecat is the twelfth novel in R. L. Stine
's Ghosts of Fear Street
series. It was first published in 1996. The main character is a girl who like cats, Wendy Chapman. It is followed by How to be a Vampire.
That night, she puts the cat charm on and then goes to bed. Suddenly, at midnight, she wakes up and finds herself turning into a were cat. Soon after, the cat charm begins to affect her mind and Wendy then jumps out the window and chases after a mouse.
The next morning, Wendy finds herself back in bed with a dead mouse. Thinking that it was just a dream, she decides to ignore it and move on. However, while spending the night at her friend's house, she turns back into a cat. The old cat lady tells her that she read about a book about werecats and that Wendy will remain a full cat day and night if she does not get it taken off within a month. After suffering another night as a werecat, she tries taking it off, but to no avail. So she goes to the cat lady to get the cat charm off. At first the old cat lady is reluctant to take it off because Wendy stole it, but then decides to take it off anyway thinking that Wendy suffered long enough.
Even without the cat charm, that night, Wendy turns back into a cat. Then, after she jumps out the window, she finds another werecat that has the same star that she has on her forehead. Then she sees two more werecats. The three other werecats are sort of familiar to her. They chase her soon after she discovers them. However, at dawn, (when all the werecats transform back to their human forms) it turns out that the three other werecats are her parents and brother. They explain that the reason why she is turning into a werecat is because the cat charm that she bought and returned was theirs, and they also say that they are surprised to see Wendy turn to a werecat at such an early age. Their ancestors also turn out to be werecats.

Plot summary
Wendy Chapman likes cats. She has a huge cat collection in her room. She wants to own a cat, but her parents will not let her get one. When she goes to a cat show, she finds a cat charm that is owned by a old cat lady. She wants to buy the cat charm, but the cat lady refuses to sell it to her because she claims that it is very dangerous. Despite this, Wendy takes the charm, throws down some money, and leaves.That night, she puts the cat charm on and then goes to bed.
