History

Nishi-Gifu Station was first opened in November 1986 as part of Japan National Railways. The following April, it became part of JR Central and has continued under the control of JR Central to this day. The station building is located on an overpass, because the Tōkaidō Main Line is elevated as it runs through the city of Gifu.
