. It is manufactured in three colors, metallic silver, black, and red.
Standard Nokia (patented) navigation for to get around the unit, it has a radio, mobile TV, & media player (music, photos, video). Java capability galore, and many office feature capabilities. The platform is Symbian OS v9.3 the S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2. Memory of a 8 GB SDHC card (micro) although a 1 GB micro card is usually factory supplied. The Nokia 6650 fold has three antennas: cellular antenna, Bluetooth antenna and GPS antenna.
The phone can be used as a broadband unit for internet access (HSDPA, 3.6 Mbit/s (2.2 Mbit/s true) / 7.2 Mbit/s (4.5 Mbit/s true), the Nokia cable CA-101 (usually supplied) which is having a USB connection at one end will connect the 6650 cell phone to a laptop or PC for direct data manipulation (busing in or out) or broadband use/ access. HSDPA is 3.5G and internet can be viewed on the telephone screen although it is obviously limited in practical viewability. The headset/ earbuds supplied for media use, and 2-way conversation use is the Nokia HS-47 model (2.5 mm). The newer HS-48 handsfree model is having the far more ubiquitous 3.5 mm jack connector for many of the new 'phones as they are music orientated units. The 6650 fold has the new smaller 2 mm power connector.
The specific absorption rate (SAR) limit stated in the ICNIRP guidelines is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams of tissue. This Nokia 6650 fold unit is 0.64 W/kg, which is very low for such a highly featured cell phone. Even the Nokia N96 is a 5-band telephone and with a marginally slower processor to this units 6-band capability, although the N-series has a fuller mobile-office capability and the new Nokia N97 has a 424 MHz processor. The Nokia 6650 is a great clamshell telephone and is more than just a pretty face with a 1500 milliamperes battery and just over 100 grammes in weight it feels 'proper'.
Unusually, this telephone was not available from Nokia in the UK or Europe as a stand-alone purchase, and it was unable to be purchased from any cell phone vendor. It is/was only available from T-mobile - a T-mobile exclusive handset - and it had to be obtained on a contract basis. Also unusually, it has a 2-year warranty as opposed to the standard issue 12-months. In North America, as indicated by the other poster, it appears to be available from other cell phone providers,- AT&T, and appears to be available in colours other than brushed steel.
Memory card, headset phones and power-charging port on the right side. USB port, 2 volume buttons, and the camera shutter button on the left side. The Nokia 6650 fold uses a BP-4L battery (1.5 Ah), physically larger than a standard cell battery. An extremely reliable & sturdy unit. A vanguard again, its earlier namesake of some 6-years ago, the old 6650 candybar telephone was the first 3G cell phone by Nokia.
Also, the software has been modified to accommodate AT&T. Carrier branding is evident throughout the OS, and several applications have been changed. Nokia Maps has been replaced by AT&T Navigator, and FM Radio has been removed for XM Radio. There are also non-removable demos of Tetris, Mobile Banking, MobiTV, The Weather Channel, Midnight Pool 3D, and Diner Dash 2 have been added. The main menu also features links to Cellular Video, Yellowpages, Media Net, AT&T Mall, AT&T Music, and AT&T GPS.
