From 1981 to 1986 he was a member of the Bavaria

.In 1987 Geis was elected directly into the Bundestag
by winning in the electoral district
of Aschaffenburg.He defended his direct mandate at the following federal elections.At the federal elections in 2005
he gained 52,4% of the votes.
So he pronounced against the legal equalization of Same-sex marriage. He also defended the former CDU
member Martin Hohmann
, who got suspended after a speech, which was regarded as anti-Semitic. Geis said that Hohmann had only been misunderstood.
In 2003 he called for a "härtere Gangart" (means such as "a stricter way of treatment") during interrogation

. He said that it had to be possible to threaten somebody with violence, if a human life can be saved in that way. With these words he showed comprehension with the deputy police chief of Frankfurt
