on Saturday 27 October 1990, and was won by the incumbent Country Liberal Party
(CLP) under Chief Minister Marshall Perron
.
Despite a swing in the CLP's favour, the government lost two seats—again not sufficient to cost the government its majority in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly
. Though the Northern Territory Nationals
again contested the election, they lost much of their vote, along with both their assembly seats. The 1990 election also saw the Australian Greens
emerge as a force in territory politics, with 3.05% of the vote—fourth behind the CLP, Labor and the Nationals.
Independents Noel Padgham-Purich
and Denis Collins
were both re-elected.
