The museum is an independent charitable trust.
The history of the Regiment is told in chronological order via the use of story panels and pictures and relevant artefacts. On the top floor there is a DVD
that runs for about forty minutes, covering the history of the Regiment in eight parts, each of approximately five minutes duration.
There is a small children's corner with various games for them to play.
The aim of the museum is not just to show relics of bygone days, but also to highlight the social history aspects of the soldiers and their families.
The museum has its roots back as far as 1929 at the then depot at Fenham Barracks in Newcastle upon Tyne
