Nunthorpe railway station serves the town of Nunthorpe

and is operated by Northern Rail
who provide all of the station's passenger services. One of the two passing loop

at the eastern end. The signal box

The December 2007 timetable brought about significant changes, and the service is now better than it has been since the mid 1980s when there was an hourly Nunthorpe:Middlesbrough service including seven Whitby trains.

A two hourly service between Nunthorpe and Newcastle/Hexham via Hartlepool (6 trains ew per day, although one is shunted to the siding in Middlesbrough on weekdays before continuing to Newcastle)

There is no Sunday service except from the start of the Summer timetable to the end of September.
