Encyclopedia
Nuphonic are a defunct independent record label that were based in London, England. The label was founded in 1994 by Sav Remzi
and David Hill
with the aim of releasing and promoting dance music that reflected their passion for Jazz, Funk, Soul and ethnic music. Nuphonic released its first record in June 1995, Faze Action
's Original Disco Motion, which instantly became a cult classic and was soon to be followed by the cello-led disco track In The Trees. In the following years, the label went on to define the British 'Nu House' movement, earning itself a reputation as one of the worlds most important independent labels.
In 2004 Sav Remzi
, one of the founders of Nuphonic, had launched a new record label called Tirk Records. Within a very short time the label has received wide critical acclaim, particularly for having discovered the bands in New Young Pony Club
and Fujiya & Miyagi
. The Tirk roster also includes Maurice Fulton, Tom Findley (Groove Armada
), Idjut Boys, Greg Wilson, Chaz Jankel, Martin Rushent, Drrtyhaze, Love Supreme, Sorcerer and many others.
David Hill formed a music supervision and composition company, called Radial Music, in 2006.
