The company focuses on delivering FTTP solutions in Greenfield estates using the "Open Access, Wholesale Only" business model created by Stephen Davies (now the GM of Operations at OptiComm) - the same model that has now been adopted by the Australian Government for the National Broadband Network.

Currently Opticomm operates NBN Tasmania on behalf of NBNco and has a further 45 estates under contract which represents some 100,000 homes to be built over the next 10 years.

History

The company was formed in 2005 by Paul Cross and Phil Smith

In 2007, Hills Holdings purchased 50% of Opticomm.

In February 2009 Opticomm launched the first 100Mbps residential access service in Australia.

In Dec 2009 Opticomm was awarded a contract by NBN Co to operate on behalf of the NBN the stage 1 release of the National Broadband Network in Australia.

In June 2010 as operator of the stage 1 NBN Tasmania network (on behalf of NBNco), Opticomm connects to the first three customers to the National Broadband Network.
