. It is the chief island in the southern group (the Oxeiae
) of the Echinades

. Oxeia possesses the highest point in the Echinades, 421 m. The mountains of Aitoloakarnania on the mainland are to the northeast. The island is around 5 km in length and its width is approximately 2 km. There are two summits. The Battle of Lepanto
took place near the island in 1571.
