Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) is one of two American national tournament series that travel throughout the United States each year. It is one of the most popular paintball leagues in the world. The PSP holds four events throughout the United States each year. Teams compete according to skill level classified into separate divisions. Divisions are distinguished in ascending order as: Division IV (D4), Division III (D3), Division II (D2), Division I (D1), and Semi-Professional/Professional. The season generally starts in March and ends with the World Cup in October.

General Game Play

As of 2011, a regulation PSP field is 170 feet long by 120 feet wide. Inflatable bunkers of differing shapes and sizes are placed on the field in mirrored symmetry with a flag in the center. Each end of the field has a start area containing a penalty box. Each team consists of five players.

A player is eliminated when they are hit by a paintball that breaks on any part of the body or equipment. Upon elimination the player must place their gun behind their start station and go to their team's deadbox. If a player fails to acknowledge a hit they run the risk of being given a penalty of varying intensity.

NXL

The NXL (National XBall League) was a paintball league based in the United States. The league consisted of franchised and non-franchised teams, and was owned by the franchise teams. NXL competition was held in conjunction with PSP (Paintball Sports Promotions) events. At the start of the 2009 season the PSP decided to no longer use the NXL as their pro bracket.
