Palnitkars as most of the Konkanastha Chitpavan Brahmins originate in the Konkan strip located on western seacoast of India about 300–500 miles south of Mumbai. However, Palnitkars have now migrated to almost all the corners of the world.

 and many others. Many Palnitkars have also visited foreign countries, settled there and are living there. Shri. Shripatrao Palnitkar was the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court. Shri. Madhavrao Palnitkar was Secretary in Maharashtra Govt. Shri. S.D.Palnitkar who retired as Brigadier is a recipient of President's seva medal.Shri. P.D.Palnitkar and Shri. V.V.Palnitkar redired as District judges.Sharad and Bhalchandra childred of Shripatrao Palnitkar are both consultant doctors in Mumbai. Mr. Samir Palnitkar is a renowned personality, and entrepreneur in the computer industry in USA with many books to his credit. Utkarsh Palnitkar, who is a chartered accountant, is a vice president at Earnst and Yound india. Atmaram Palnitkar is the Principal of Dayanand Commerce College at Latur. Dr Devdatt Palnitkar is a Urologist who did the first renal transplant surgery in Marathwada, at Aurangabad, Sanjay Palnitkar is a Ph D in microbiology and is settled in New Jersey, USA and Nilima Palnitkar Bhadbhade is a professor in Law College Pune. , there is a small village/town named Mohopada. This is where most of the Palnitkars trace their roots to. There is a very old (about 300 yrs.) temple of Shiwa just outside Mohopada that was built by then Palnitkars (mostly the 1st one).
Some palnitkars can be found in the rural heartlands of Maharashtra , esp in Ambanagar, (Latur Dt) and Vajhar(Nanded dt)where they are called as "Patils", which means the community head. They own large patches of land and being the "Jahagirdars", own houses which are in fact fortresses. Nandkumar and Shantaram Palnitkar have been Sarpanch of the Vazar village, a rare honor for a person from a Brahmin family.
