The holes are generally not lengthy, but they have mature trees lining the fairways, and numerous sand traps which makes recovery from errant tee shots difficult. 94 sand traps line the fairways and protect the small greens. A number of the holes (1, 2, 3, 6, 12, 13, 14) play longer than advertised, as they play into the prevailing west wind from the Pacific Ocean which is less than one mile from the course. Fourteen of the course's eighteen holes feature panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
History
The golf course began construction beginning in 1923, and was completed in 1924. The club employed the famous Olmstead brothers for landscaping and George C. Thomas Jr and and William "Billy" Bell as course architects. The course was opened for play on November 15th, 1924. Many varieties of trees were planted during original construction, which are now very mature and line and narrow the fairways.
