Paracuru is a town and municipality in the state of Ceará
in the Northeast region
of Brazil

THE STORY HAS PARACURU START BEFORE CABRAL discovered Brazil. According to historian Rodolfo Spínola books " Vicente Pinzon e a Descoberta do Brasil" and " Naufragos, Traficantes e Deportados" written by journalist Eduardo Bueno: 29 de Janeiro de 1500, Spanish navigator Vicente Yáñez Pinzón was the protagonist of the first battle Brazilian land between Europeans and indigenous paracuruenses Tremembés the outskirts of Rio Curu. Twenty natives died in combat and eight Spanish.
Its origins date back to the late sixteenth century, already in 1888 was the village Alto Alegre do Parazinho; elected city in 1951. Its name in Tupi language means Lizard Sea. 296.60 km2 area of the Municipality. Population about 30,000. Economy: tourism, agro-industry, livestock, shrimp, chicken and eggs, flowers (ornamental pineapple and Sansevero cylinders), agriculture: cultivation of passion fruit, papaya, pineapple, coconut, sugar cane for alcohol; subsistence fisheries. Paracuru home base support for offshore oil wells.
The city is on the sea in a beautiful bay downwind, and it offers accommodation facilities, small Hotels and Pousadas, bars and restaurants. In the rural area find ancient manioc flour mills and cane sugar still working, and cattle ranches.

Paracuru has the most rich and diverse ecosystem of Costa do Sol Poente. With 20 km of coastline lined by beautiful beaches from the mouth of the Rio San Gonçalo, through dunes, cliffs, inlets from the sea calm, with rock pools and coral, to the mangroves in the mouth of the Rio Curu, the whole is surrounded by coconut palms and emerald green sea. The Dunes of Paracuru environmental areas are protected: Rise in magnificent scenery grand dunes interspersed with lagoons of crystal water. Mangrove: the estuary of the Rio Curu is an area of environmental protection: habitat for marine species and birds that live and reproduce in the Ecological Sanctuary, where you'll find the waters of the river with the sea in a landscape of rare beauty. LAGOONS: many freshwater lagoons scattered throughout the region, are a paradox in a largely arid region! Well worth a visit to the lagoons of Joao Rola, Jirau and Sao Pedro.
