The beginning of the riots was at a road roko at Five Point Junction, Paramakudi
on 10th September, 2011 demanding the release of Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) leader John Pandian who was on detention while heading to the town on the 54th death anniversary of Immanuvel Devendrar

tells that it was done to ensure law enforcement.But the fact finding report tells that the DRO,District collector,DIG of police,police SP not answered any questions asked by the fact finding commission reveals that the incident was illegal.
