after joining from Leicester Celtic where he was a member of the under 15 SFAI All Ireland Cup winning team. He played with Shamrock Rovers Schoolboy Team and was a member of the DDSL Academy of Excellence where he played for their Schoolboy selection against Northern Ireland.
Having spent a number of years at UCD
, Sullivan joined Drogheda United at the start of the 2005 season. His time at Drogheda was plagued by injury and illness and he moved from the Louth club to Longford Town
to try to resurrect his career, reaching an FAI Cup Final
-where he was sent off as Longford fell to defeat to Cork City

After Longford's relegation at the end of the 2007 season, Patrick moved South to link up with his former manager Alan Mathews

s at Cork City. That season, Cork City ran into financial difficulties and were forced into examinership
. However, the club emerged from the examinership period and went on to clinch the Setanta Cup at the end of the season.
Sullivan was released by Cork City
and he signed for Shamrock Rovers
on 31 July 2009, on a two and a half-year contract.

In March 2010 he scored the winner at Terryland Park

On the 25th of August 2011 Patrick scored arguably the most important goal of his life when he equalised with a spectacular volley at Partizan Belgrade
