The Patrick and Margaret DeNaples Center is The University of Scranton's new campus center. This 118000 square feet (10,962.6 m²) center opened in January 2008. The $35 million project was named after the parents of Dunmore, Pennsylvania
businessman, former University trustee, and reputed organized crime associate Louis DeNaples. It was formally dedicated to Patrick and Margaret DeNaples on February 29, 2008. This new student center replaced the Gunster Memorial Student Center, which was demolished shortly after the DeNaples Center was opened.
The DeNaples Center is a four-story building located on the 900 block of Mulberry Street in Scranton, Pennsylvania
. It contains numerous services and offices for the University of Scranton community. The first floor includes commuter lockers, student mailboxes, a bookstore, a convenience store, an atrium lounge and a dining area including Quiznos and Starbucks
. The second floor houses the Student Forum, Fireplace Lounge, Office of Student Affairs and University Ministries. The Student Forum includes the student government office, Jane Kopas Women's Center, Center for Health Education and Wellness, Multicultural Center and the Office of Student Activities and Orientation. The third floor contains The Fresh Food Company, a dining area and catering office. The fourth floor includes ballrooms, three meeting rooms, a 260-seat auditorium and a catering kitchen.
The University of Scranton has applied for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
building certification, because of the building's energy-saving features such as light sensors and automatic sinks.
