Encyclopedia
Paul Barsky was a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
talk radio
personality. Last featured on WYSP, Barsky has previously been a fixture on other Philadelphia radio stations, including the now defunct Y100
.
Paul Barsky began his Philadelphia radio career in the 1980's when he was hired by WCAU-FM
to host their morning drive show. When Barsky left WCAU-FM , his morning show had turned into a ratings leader and was one of the most listened to Top 40 shows in the country. In late 1985, Barsky brought his talents to Chicago
, one of the nation's most competitive radio markets, where in two years at WLS-FM
, he took his morning show from 20th place in the ratings book to a 5th place ranking.
After a brief stint in station ownership, Barsky longed to return to his first love, morning radio, and in 1991 he joined Houston's KRBE, hosting the morning drive show. Barsky returned to Philly in 1993 to take over the morning drive time slot at WPLY
, where he turned "The Barsky Show" into one of the market's top rated shows. At Y 100 he was named Best Major Market Morning show by trade publication FMQB. It was also at Y100 where Barsky created in 1994 his off the cuff, "Dead Guy in the Envelope" contest based on a risque dream that his wife had about a celebrity who had passed to the great beyond. Barsky's infamous contest idea has since been adopted by many radio stations around the world and has inspired an online internet game as well.
Barsky remained in Philadelphia, but left Y100 for Greater Media's cluster. First he appeared as the morning drive host on Max 95.7, and when Max 95.7 flipped to Jammin' Gold 95.7, Barsky moved over to the morning drive slot at active rocker WMMR
. It was here at WMMR
where Barsky was honored by industry trade magazine Radio and Records in the " Rock show of the year" category.
Barsky was also morning host and operations director at 96.5 The Point in Philly and in October 2005 Barsky was announced and appeared on WYSP following the Howard Stern show on a new FM Talk format called FREE-FM.
In 2009, Barsky appeared on the afternoon drive show at 105.3 The FAN in Dallas, Texas
with Gregg Henson. Upon the firing of part of the morning drive show, Barsky returned to his morning drive slot roots.
Currently, Barsky coanchors the morning drive show with Chris Jagger and Jasmine Sadry for 105.3 THE FAN in Dallas, Texas
