In 2005 Laffin retired from professional rugby to pursue a career in public affairs. After a brief spell working for a consultancy in Brussels, Laffin went to England to take up a position within Essex County Council as a Cabinet Advisor. In March 2010, Laffin returned to Brussels via a secondment to the East of England Brussels Office where he focuses on EU health policy.

Laffin still plays rugby and used to be an integral part of the Brussels Barbarians

first team. He is rumoured to be playing for Wallonian team ASUB.
